World class performance-based education with a focus on improvisation and jazz performance in group settings and through 1-on-1 instruction.
SoCal Jazz Academy is a community jazz education program that was established in in Orange County, California, by bassist and educator, Dr. Karim Yengsep in 2019. Our school is located conveniently close to I-5 and 405 highways (Lake Forest Dr exit), with ample parking, and most importantly allows us to create a unique environment suitable for small group rehearsal.
In addition, our private lesson room is equipped with top of the line and industry standard 8x10' WhisperRoom sound isolation booth, which allows for uninterrupted learning experience.
COURSES OFFERED
The varied instrumentation Jazz Imprvosiation & Repertoire group class otherwise known as Jazz Combo offers its participants a unique opportunity to learn from master faculty and guest clinicians in a professionally equipped facility over the period of 10 weeks.
Jazz Studio Program is an opportunity to study with a dedicated faculty in 1-on-1 format on a primary instrument. Lessons can be taken concurrently with a group class, or as a stand-alone activity.
Most advanced students are invited to join the audition based flagship performance ensemble, the Jazz Repertory Big Band.
All students perform in Fall & Spring Recitals and participate in Jazz Jury at the end of Winter session.
